Summary
The Paleoclimate Modelling Intercomparison Project (PMIP) investigates the physical mechanisms of climate change.
The response of various climate models with different physical parameterizations to uniformly used boundary conditions, which are prescribed by PMIP, is compared. As a participant of PMIP the ECHAM3-T42 simulations of different time slices
were performed:
6000 years BP (Climatic Optimum, Entry_ID=ECHAM3_T42_32003K006),
21000 years BP (Last Glacial Maximum, Entry_ID=ECHAM3_T42_32004K021),
and 115000 years BP (Glacial Inception, Entry_ID=ECHAM3_T42_32001K115),
additionally a new Control Run with revised insolation (this Entry_ID).
The time slice of this experiment (new Control Run) is defined by a revised annual distribution of insolation:
An improvement of the ORBIT routine of the model altered the insolation with a maximum difference of 20 W/m2 near the equinoxes at the poles (less insolation in northern and more insolation in southern hemisphere near vernal equinox;
vice versa from July to November). The climatological SST, which is a 10 year mean of the AMIP data set, and modern surface boundary conditions were used.
A model description of ECHAM3 is addressed at https://doi.org/10.2312/WDCC/DKRZ_Report_No06 in the DKRZ Report No.6 The ECHAM3 Atmospheric General Circulation
Model.
