JSBACH-simulations of temperature overshoot scenarios in the Artic (KoPf project)

Dataset
Summary
The dataset contains model output of JSBACH-standalone simulations that target temperature overshoot scenarios and cover the Arctic region (north of 45N). The land surface scheme is forced with MPI-ESM1.2 model output from CMIP6 simulations, covering the historical period and a future period until the year 2100. The climate scenarios start in 1850 and, subsequent to the year 2015, assume an increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations (based on the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway 5 and the Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5) which peaks in the years 2025, 2050, 2075 or 2100, respectively. The peaks are followed by a decrease in atmospheric GHGs that returns the concentrations to the levels at the beginning of the 21st century also reversing the imposed climate change. For each of the trajectories, 20 simulations were performed with slightly varying model setups -- that is different initial conditions and variations in key parametrizations in the model. For the simulations an adapted model version was used (branch: mpiesm-landveg_pdv_KoPf; Rev.: 9562), which was developed within the KoPf project. Besides the JSBACH standard output-variables, the dataset provides output from 2 newly implemented wetland-schemes, a soil methane module and an adapted soil carbon scheme.
Additionally, the dataset contains output from a number of simulations that target the response of the continental Arctic to climate stabilization, roughly at a global mean temperature of 1.5 K above pre-industrial levels. The simulations are forced with similar non-transient conditions, but start from different initial conditions. The latter represent the varying states of the Arctic that ensue at climate-stabilization after different temperature overshoots. Most of these simulations cover the region north of 45N and periods of 1000 and 2500 years. However, for a number of selected grid-cells, the simulations were extended to provide coverage over a period of 10000 years.
Besides the raw output, the dataset contains post-processed output, as well as all initial and boundary conditions and the runscripts that were required to conduct the above simulations.
